Already very popular as a place to live by the water for thousands of years

Two factors have significantly influenced the economic development of today's 10,000-inhabitant town of Rangsdorf over the millennia and centuries. On the one hand, the almost 3 Km² large Rangsdorfer See, on whose shores people already settled, lived and worked permanently 10,000 years ago, and on the other hand, the mere 30 kilometer distance to Berlin, which was to turn the once typical Mark Brandenburg farming village and knight's estate into an extremely popular excursion destination for the rapidly growing population of the capital, especially with the railroad connection from 1875 and at the latest with the beginning of the 20th century. Already in 1930 the open-air swimming pool Rangsdorf ("Strand-Casino") could register more than 100,000 guests, also numerous vacation homes and country houses were built at that time. Since 1990, the population of the friendly and geographically so conveniently located small town has increased from 6,000 to over 10,000 residents today, and since then many companies have also settled, for example, on the Theresenhof industrial estate. The modern shopping center Südringcenter is located in the immediate vicinity of the highway exit Rangsdorf (A10), where the highway maintenance office is also located.

Venice in the Fläming, fish in the lake, houses in the countryside, hiking in the Mark region

One of the most popular residential areas in Rangsdorf due to its fantastic waterfront location is certainly the villa colony and owner-occupied housing estate "Klein-Venedig" between Bansiner Allee, Usedomer Straße, Krumminer Straße and Walther-Rathenau-Straße southwest of the center and near the lake. In this sought-after location, the development plan area "Rangsdorf-Südwest 1 B", which covers more than 25,000 m², has also been designated. There are 25 building land plots there, among others for single-family houses ranging in size from 510 to 1,000 m². In the same building area a further popular new Rangsdorfer housing situation is with the Feng Shui settlement conceived 2008 finished after eastern wisdom, for purchase prices between 90,00 and 120,00 euro/m ² can be acquired there properties starting from 500 square meters. The residential area "Römerschanze" in the northwest of the city on Wacholderstraße, Anemonenstraße, Clematisring and Stadtweg is also very popular with prospective buyers of new buildings. The two districts of Groß Machnow (1,300 inhabitants) in the southeast about 8 and Klein Kienitz (150 inhabitants) in the northeast about 5 kilometers outside the center are also becoming increasingly popular as places to live. In Groß Machnow, the rural residential areas of Pramsdorf, Theresenhof and Fenne as well as the popular fishing area of the fish-rich Machnower See are appealing. In Klein Kienitz, one can get to know the surroundings on foot on the hiking trail of the cultural landscapes.

Rangsdorf is still quite inexpensive, but will probably soon increase in price.

With average prices of about 225,000 euros for houses between 100 and 180m² and about 1,400 euros/m² for apartments between 40 and 80m², Rangsdorf is still surprisingly inexpensive for Berlin's "Speckgürtel", which is becoming noticeably more expensive. Property prices are currently still just below the Brandenburg average and well below those of the Federal Republic. In general, prices in the Teltow-Fläming district and in Rangsdorf in particular have remained relatively stable over the past three years, unlike in the neighboring Potsdam-Mittelmark district, for example. Nevertheless, most local and regional market observers predict that the cost of local real estate will rise moderately at first and then more sharply in the medium and long term. Rangsdorf, as well as the nearby towns of Blankenfelde-Mahlow, Großbeeren and Ludwigsfelde, will benefit both from their proximity to Berlin and to the future BER airport, in the periphery of which, in all likelihood, further companies with labor requirements will gradually settle. In addition, Rangsdorf continues to be attractive for young families with children as well as for senior citizens. Several kindergartens and schools as well as the private high school "Seeschule" in the building of the former airfield, the extensive medical infrastructure and the nursing home on the estate park grounds are accordingly suitable arguments for the town.Thecurrent 40-minute journey by regional train to the center of Berlin will soon be reduced to about 25 minutes with the reopening of the "Dresdner Bahn".
