Recklinghausen has excellent transport connections: The A2 and A43 freeways run in the immediate vicinity, and the B 225 federal highway also starts here. The Wallring ring road surrounds the old town and connects important entry and exit roads. Shipping is also well catered for: the Recklinghausen city harbor on the Rhine-Herne Canal in the south of the city enables goods to be transported by water.
