The building is a landmark in the cityscape and a frequent motif on postcards, both in the past and today.
The bookseller August Holländer (1891-1938) and his family lived and worked in "Haus Holländer". The Emsdetten local history museum was named after him.

The residential and commercial building is located directly in the pedestrian zone of Emsdetten, just two buildings away from the Stadt- und Marktkirche St. Pankratius (city and market church).
Kirchstraße boasts a diverse mix of businesses and a high volume of foot traffic. The neighboring shops include textile retailers, an optician, a flower shop, and cafes, most of which are independently owned.
