Hardly any other region in Germany is as characterized by the fascinating interplay of clouds, waves and wind as North Friesland. This is one of the reasons why the district is one of the most popular vacation regions in Germany. The North Frisian marshes are home to numerous rare animal and plant species, which is why almost 10% of the district is now a nature reserve. The sea has always been a magical attraction for Germans. The North Sea coast is one of the most popular travel regions for Germans. Those who explore it will be richly rewarded: with relaxation that lasts for a long time.

The region stands for quality of life, slowing down and relaxation. The romantic town of Tønder (10 minutes from Lykke Hus) on the west coast is well worth a visit. Many people like to go shopping in the small town near the border and visit the antique dealers in Tønder or Møgeltønder, for example. Hjerpsted Strand (18 km from Lykke Hus) is a beach behind Højer and not far from Rømø. From here you have a wonderful view of the sea and, in good weather, a direct view of Sylt and Rømø. The island of Rømø, with one of the longest sandy beaches in Europe, is not far away. Lykke comes from the Danish and in German "Lykke" means "happy".

Every spring and fall, you can witness a breathtaking natural spectacle, which many bird lovers from all over Denmark love and come to our region in their thousands. The migratory birds are on their way to their wintering grounds and millions of starlings gather just before sunset along the Grellsbülldeich road between Aventoft and Süderlügum during the twilight hours in the early evening (after 5 pm). At Lake Haasberg, only about 5 km from Lykke Hus, the starlings perform a ballet in the sky. Our neighbors from Denmark call this natural phenomenon "Sort Sol" (Black Sun).

Golf enthusiasts will find the exemplary 18-hole Hof Berg golf course a short distance away in scenic surroundings on the edge of the Langenberg Forest. Another golf course is located in Denmark (Tønder) in the immediate vicinity of Lykke Hus.

The skyline of Flensburg and the numerous white sailing boats cruising before the wind give the viewer a maritime flair. Flensburg is a wonderful place for shopping and strolling or you can sit down in one of the many street cafés or restaurants by the water. Visit the restaurants in Sonwik directly on the marina with a sea view.
