Location

The Bad Erna recreation area is located around 4 km south of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the district of Elbe-Elster, Brandenburg, within the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft nature park. The Westteich, also known as Bad Erna - Westteich, is a central feature of this area and was created from a former open-cast lignite mine.

Originally, the ponds of the "Bad Erna" recreational area were formed as the remaining holes of an old open-cast lignite mine, where coal was mined from 1873 to 1920. After mining ceased, the pits filled with groundwater and have been used as bathing lakes since 1927. Today, the area includes several man-made lakes, including the Inselteich, the Westteich, the Blauer See, the Perchteich and the Franzosenteich.

The Westteich, with an area of around 7.6 hectares, offers a variety of recreational opportunities such as swimming, hiking and nature watching. The area is surrounded by forest and has facilities such as a forest tavern, which is idyllically situated by the bathing lake and provides visitors with food and drinks. A children's playground with a pirate ship and locomotive invites younger guests in particular to play and run around.

The region is easily accessible via the town of Doberlug-Kirchhain and offers visitors a retreat in the middle of nature, ideal for relaxation and leisure activities.
