Location
Altenahr is located in the beautiful Ahr Valley and is historically interesting, being known for the ruins of Are Castle. As a tourist destination, it offers a stunning natural setting with a nature reserve and wonderful hiking trails through the vineyards. The train journey from Ahrbrück to Remagen, via Altenahr, takes approximately 42 minutes. Trains operate on the Ahr Valley line as RB30 or RB32 (fully electric) to Remagen, with connections to Koblenz and Boppard, as well as to Bonn and Cologne. From December 2026, the RB32 will run directly from Ahrbrück, via Remagen and Koblenz, to Boppard. Road access:
- A61 motorway, Meckenheimer Kreuz, approximately 5 km.
- To Bad Neuenahr - 17 km / 20 minutes.
- To Adenau - 19 km / 20 minutes.
- To the Nürburgring - 29 km / 30 minutes.
- To Bonn - 30 km / 27 minutes.
- To Cologne - 56 km / 56 minutes.
- To Koblenz - 67 km / 60 minutes.
Altenahr offers a good infrastructure for daily needs. There is a savings bank (Sparkasse), a cooperative bank (VR-Bank), and a REWE "Nahkauf Box" – a modern, self-service convenience store with a wide range of products for everyday shopping, open 24/7, seven days a week. The amenities include a post office open from Monday to Saturday, a Shell gas station, a bakery, and several restaurants, providing convenient local services.
