In 1908-1909, a transformation plant was built on the site at Prenzlauer Allee 33 according to the plans of architect Otto Springmann. In the 4-storey second transverse building (Plant 2), the high-voltage three-phase current was transformed to the operating voltage and simultaneously converted to direct current. Divided by pilaster strips and with high segmental arch windows in the façade, Springmann created a traditional industrial courtyard architecture with a historicizing design language. In 1926, Hans Heinrich Müller took an even more striking approach with the 3-storey extension that was inserted as the first transverse building. Narrow vertical bands of windows are cut into the smooth clinker brick façade of the cubist structure, giving the impression of an alternating façade structured by wall and glass panels. The entire building ensemble is a listed building.
