Location
Seckbach is located just about 5 kilometers northeast of the center of Frankfurt. Picturesque half-timbered houses characterize the historic townscape, and the historic center boasts the best-preserved collection of half-timbered buildings in Frankfurt.
Within the old village structure, it is easy to imagine that Seckbach was first mentioned in documents as early as 880 as "Villa Seckibah" (referring to seepage water).
The infrastructure is excellent, with various subway (U4, U7), tram, and bus lines, as well as the nearby A 661 highway.
The name Seckbach rightly evokes images of green spaces and a village atmosphere: The Frankfurt Green Belt runs through the district, including the Huth Park, the starting point of the Quellenwanderweg (spring water hiking trail), and the Lohr Park. The Lohrberg, Frankfurt's local mountain at 185 meters, offers an impressive view of the skyline; on its slopes, wine is cultivated in the municipal vineyard, just as it was in Roman times. The Lohrberg is also the source of the Mühlbach stream, which flows into the Seckbacher Ried, a nature reserve wetland area in an abandoned arm of the Main river, and also part of the Green Belt.
The historic center is also known for its traditional cider pubs.
