Otto-Wilhelm-Scharenberg-Bogen 5, 04289 Leipzig (Meusdorf) – SachsenThe former Park Hospital was designed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Hugo Licht and built by Otto Wilhelm Scharenberg. In 1913, the institution was taken over by the Royal Saxon State and subsequently renamed "Royal State Sanatorium and Care Facility Leipzig-Dösen." With the establishment of the districts of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), the clinic was transferred back to the city of Leipzig in 1952. In 1999, the Park Hospital was acquired by Rhön-Klinikum and, in 2002, relocated to a new building in the Probstheida district of Leipzig. Since then, the existing buildings and grounds have no longer been used as a hospital facility. The 14-hectare site, after extensive renovation, combines history with modern living comfort, featuring 18 new buildings and 20 historic structures. The impressive brick facades with ornamentation, as well as the tall, multi-paned windows of the older buildings, are particularly characteristic. These listed properties are among the most important examples of the pavilion style, which defined a period in the design of hospital buildings at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. The pavilion-style construction already in use will also be incorporated into the new buildings, thus creating a harmonious blend of old and new. In addition to ample play, recreational, and activity areas within the traffic-calmed, family-friendly development, a daycare center and a local shop will also be built.
