Geographic Location and Transportation
Diethensdorf is located in the northwest of the municipality of Claußnitz, west of the Königshainer Forest. The village is situated in a side valley of the Chemnitz River; only the lower part of the village is directly located on the Chemnitztalstraße. West of the village is the Diethensdorf granite quarry, and southeast of the village is the Markersdorf granite quarry.

The Bundesstraße 107 federal highway runs through the upper part of Diethensdorf, and the Diethensdorf industrial area is also located along this road. The Via Porphyria trail runs through the neighboring Königshainer Forest. Between 1902 and 1998, Diethensdorf had a train station called Schweizerthal–Diethensdorf on the now-disused Wechselburg–Küchwald railway line (Chemnitztalbahn). Today, this is the terminal station for the Chemnitztal-Express, which is operated by a motorized railcar and runs from the Markersdorf–Taura museum railway station through the Amselgrund valley and across the two Chemnitztal viaducts to Schweizerthal–Diethensdorf.
