Location
With a population of around 211,000, the Hanseatic city of Rostock is the largest city in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is a supra-regional commercial, administrative, trade fair, cultural and service center. It is the oldest university location in Germany.
Rostock benefits from its geographic location on the Baltic Sea with a distinctive port/ferry business and well-known shipbuilding, but also from the Hamburg - Szczecin axis via the A 20 highway and Berlin - Kobenhagen via the A 19 highway.
Numerous industries and sciences complement the economic portfolio: Crane manufacturer Liebherr, wind turbine construction, electrical engineering, biotechnology, medical technology, etc.
The "Marina-Gehlsdorf" residential area has a very special flair. It is located directly on the banks of the Warnow and today has a marina in front of it, as well as a modern swimming, sports and shooting hall.
