Himmelsthür is a district of the Lower Saxon district town of Hildesheim with around 6,500 inhabitants. Together with the areas that belonged to Hildesheim before it was incorporated in 1974 in the area of Sandstraße and Straße am Kupferstrange north of the B 1 and west of the Innerste, it forms one of 14 localities in the town.
Himmelsthür is located directly south of the Giesener Berge and north of the Gallberg. It borders the district of Moritzberg to the south, Steuerwald to the east, Sorsum and the Giesen district of Emmerke to the west and Giesen to the north. Himmelsthür is bordered roughly to the east by the B 6 and to the south by the B 1, which skirts the town.
