Geographical location:
Böblingen is located on the north-eastern edge of the Oberes Gäus, on a steep hill that is a foothill of the Schönbuch. The northern Black Forest can be reached from Böblingen in about half an hour, the Swabian Alb in 40 minutes.
The following towns and municipalities border the town of Böblingen. The neighboring town of Sindelfingen as well as Schönaich, Holzgerlingen and Ehningen.
Together with the neighboring town of Sindelfingen, Böblingen forms a medium-sized center within the Stuttgart region, of which Stuttgart is the regional center.
Infrastructure:
Böblingen is easily accessible by all transport routes: Stuttgart Airport can be reached by S-Bahn in around 20 minutes. The junction between the federal highways 8 and 81 (Karlsruhe-Munich / Singen-Heilbronn) is not far to the north-east of Böblingen. The A 81 passes to the north of the town. The town can be reached via the Böblingen-Ost, Böblingen/Sindelfingen, Böblingen-Hulb and Ehningen junctions. The federal highway 464 (Renningen-Reutlingen) and the B 14 pass Böblingen.
Böblingen is on the Gäu-Bahn line from Stuttgart to Singen and is served by hourly regional and city express trains. Böblingen is also connected to the Stuttgart S-Bahn network with the S1 Kirchheim (Teck)-Stuttgart-Herrenberg and S60 Renningen-Böblingen lines. Stuttgart can be reached in approx. 25 minutes.
There are also numerous bus lines in the city area, in addition to the city bus service operated by Pflieger, there are several intercity lines. All lines operate at standard prices within the Stuttgart Transport and Tariff Association (VVS). The long-distance bus network includes connections to Hamburg and Milan.
Education:
Böblingen's numerous educational and cultural institutions offer a wide range of opportunities. Secondary and vocational schools with a wide catchment area, together with the municipal library, the music and art school and the adult education center, form a broad spectrum for education, further education and leisure activities directly on site.
Böblingen has four general secondary schools, two secondary modern schools, two special schools, one primary and secondary technical school, one secondary technical school, six elementary school in the town center and one elementary school in the Dagersheim district. The district of Böblingen is responsible for the three vocational schools. The Käthe Kollwitz School for the mentally handicapped with a kindergarten for the mentally handicapped should also be mentioned here. The Prisma private schools (Realschule-Gymnasium), the private geriatric care school of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Nordwürttemberg e. V., the Freie Evangelische Schule Böblingen e. V. (primary and secondary school), the Freie Waldorfschule Böblingen/Sindelfingen e. V. and the private vocational school in the Bildungszentrum Böblingen des Internationalen Bundes e. V. round off the educational offerings in Böblingen. Adult education is offered by the Vhs-Böblingen-Sindelfingen e. V. and the Verein zur Förderung der Berufsbildung e. V., an educational institution of the IHK.
