The townscape is characterized by a residential, rural structure with mainly detached and semi-detached houses, well-tended gardens and a quiet, natural environment. Numerous hiking and cycling trails lead from Spessart into the Black Forest, making the village particularly attractive for nature lovers.

Spessart itself is home to an elementary school, daycare centers, a church, clubs and smaller service providers. Secondary schools, shopping facilities and a wide range of cultural activities can be found in nearby Ettlingen.
