Parchim, with a population of around 18,000, is the county town of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, 40 km south-east of the state capital Schwerin.
The small town has a good infrastructure. Schools, kindergartens, after-school care, doctors, pharmacies, hospital, care facilities, petrol stations and shopping facilities
and restaurants are available. The Kulturmühle is located directly on the Elde and the cinema is not far away.
The town has good transport connections. There is a rail connection.
Parchim is located on the B191 (between Ludwigslust and Lübz) and B321 federal highways
(between Schwerin and the Suckow junction on the A24 Hamburg-Berlin highway). The town can be reached via the Neustadt-Glewe junction (A24).
