The town of Braubach is located in the Rhine-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate. The town belongs to the Loreley Association Municipality, of which it is the largest municipality with over 3000 inhabitants. It is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. It has become particularly famous for its location below Marksburg Castle, the only undestroyed hilltop castle on the Middle Rhine. Braubach is designated as a basic center according to state planning.

Braubach is located on the right bank of the Rhine about ten kilometers south of Koblenz, where the Mühlbach, the right tributary of the Rhine, has cut two deep valleys into the Rhenish Slate Mountains. On the one hand, these valleys made it possible to build roads from the Rhine to the surrounding villages in the Taunus, and on the other hand, one of these valleys encloses a solitary mountain southeast of Braubach with steep slopes almost on all sides, thus providing ideal conditions for the construction of a castle. This is where Marksburg Castle was built.
