Frickenhausen and its neighbouring communities of Linsenhofen and Tischardt have a population of around 9,000 and are located in the Neuffen valley, which is characterized by its tax orchards and vineyards (biosphere area in the foothills of the Swabian Alb). The municipal area lies mainly in the valleys of the Neckar tributary Steinach and some smaller tributaries.
