Location
Characterized by residential and commercial areas, Lütgendortmund consists of medieval villages, old aristocratic estates and former coal mines. One of these is the Zollern colliery, a disused coal mine with Art Nouveau buildings, which is now part of the LWL Industrial Museum. To the south is the Dellwiger Bachtal, a large park with Haus Dellwig, a moated castle with stepped gables and a farm. Closer to the city center, the large InduPark shopping center offers well-known German brand stores.
The Dortmund district of Lütgendortmund is located almost halfway between the cities of Bochum and Dortmund. It is about 8.5 km as the crow flies from both city centers to the Dortmund district of Lütgendortmund. The distance to the cities of Castrop-Rauxel and Witten is only 6 km each.
